The Plain Ledger

Most news today is built to hold you. It keeps you scrolling, keeps you angry, keeps you coming back. The outrage is the business model.

This is my attempt at the opposite. One page. The day’s news from real sources, laid out plainly, with no algorithm deciding what you see and no feed engineered to keep you here. You read what you came for, and you leave. That’s the whole idea.

Why it exists

I built it for someone I love. They were spending hours a day with media that left them angrier and more afraid than when they started, and none of it was leaving them better informed. I wanted to give them one place that just showed them what was happening, calmly, without trying to provoke them. It turned out I wanted that place too, and so did everyone I showed it to.

How it works

Every source here is real journalism, or real commentary from a named, accountable person. Reddit is a reading list, a look at what people are talking about, linked out and never vouched for. Nothing else runs here that fails a simple test: is it true, and does it come from someone who would be embarrassed to be caught lying? Reporting is labeled as reporting. Opinion is labeled as opinion. I don’t sort sources into left, right and center, because those labels have stopped meaning much. I sort them by whether they get the facts right and answer for it when they don’t.

I’m not aiming for balance between two sides, and I won’t invent a symmetry the facts don’t have. A source that keeps failing the test is out, whichever way it leans. What you see is what remains.

About the AI question

This site was built by one person, with AI tools as part of the work. No headline, summary or pick on it is written by AI. Every source is real and every editorial choice, especially the daily pick, is mine.

Why there’s no name on this

Because what matters is the judgment. I’d rather you trust the pick than the person making it. A person, not an algorithm.

Reclaim your attention. It was always yours.
